SEDM DCHODs meeting - Istanbul 2024

The Deputy Chiefs of Defence (DCHODs) of the South-Eastern Defence Ministerial (SEDM) nations gathered in Istanbul, on the 26th of June 2024, alongside representatives of regional organizations, for their annual meeting.

The event, chaired by Bucharest, hosted and organized under the outstanding leadership of the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Republic of Türkiye, general İrfan Özsert, was a good opportunity for the DCHODs to continue consultations on constructive military cooperation in South-Eastern Europe.

Against this background, the DCHODs have been briefed about the progress registered since their last meeting, in June 2023, regarding the projects within the SEDM format. The participants also touched upon the importance of strengthening the relevance of the South-Eastern Europe Brigade (SEEBRIG) and welcomed a quarter of a century of SEEBRIG existence that will be celebrated on September 3 in Kumanovo, the Republic of North Macedonia.

They also underlined the importance of enhancing regional resilience in the military field, considering the challenges that we face in the regiom.

The SEDM Process continues to be a relevant platform for adressing common security concerns and bolstering regional cooperation on defence.
